Writer of Tomb Raider IV Leads DMK Course on Screenwriting For Games

Screenwriting for films & games is a short course lead by Hope Caton that is suitable for anyone who has dreams of writing a screenplay: those who are currently working on a screenplay, or those who may be new to writing but have an initial cinematic idea. It is also for writers who want to switch genres, and who are interested in developing their skills.

At the end of the course, you will have:

  • Outlined the structure of your screenplay and the key dramatic conflicts
  • Created compelling characters and mapped their journeys through the film
  • Learned how to construct scenes and write realistic dialogue
  • Worked out a plan of action to help you complete and market your screenplay

Geniuses are ‘bordering on being insane’ says study

Swedish researchers believe they have uncovered a possible explanation for the link between mental health and creativity. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet studied brain neurotransmitters and receptors and discovered the dopamine system in healthy, highly creative people is similar in some respects to that seen in people with schizophrenia. High creative skills have been shown to be somewhat more common in people who have mental illness in the family. Creativity is also linked to a slightly higher risk of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Certain psychological traits, such as the ability to make unusual or bizarre associations are also shared by schizophrenics and healthy, highly creative people. And now the correlation between creativity and mental health has scientific backing. http://psychcentral.com/news/2010/05/19/mental-health-creativity-linked/13936.html

Artists Re:thinking Games

Book Launch – Thursday June 10th 2010

Come and celebrate with Furtherfield.org the recent publication of ‘Artists Re: Thinking Games’. Digital games are important not only because of their cultural ubiquity or their sales figures but for what they can offer as a space for creative practice. Games are significant for what they embody; human computer interface, notions of agency, sociality, visualisation, cybernetics, representation, embodiment, activism, narrative and play. These and a whole host of other issues are significant not only to the game designer but also present in the work of the artist that thinks and rethinks games. Re-appropriated for activism, activation, commentary and critique within games and culture, artists have responded vigorously. This is an unmissable event for all artists/gamers with a presentation by respected game artist Dr Mary Flanagan, a guest appearance by Jeremy Bailey and a display of some of the gameart featured in the book as well as an introduction by the editors. Introductory Presentations:
