These courses have been developed in consultation with Digital Media Kingston’s industry panel. Our relationship with this panel ensures an industry‐focused learning experience, where industry overlaps are manifest tangibly, through course design and ethos as well as unique opportunities such as work placements, real projects, mentoring and internships to arm you for entry into the highly competitive digital media arena.

The Digital Media Kingston programmes have all been specifically designed to foster collaborative innovation, utilising the best digital media expertise and resources from across four faculties. The courses have a project-based curriculum where collaborative interdisciplinary teamwork is encouraged. This provides an industry-focused learning experience where you can hone your own specialist skills in a professional context. Work placements, real projects, internships and an industry mentoring scheme mean these courses will arm you for entry into the fast-growing and highly competitive digital media arena.

All courses have been developed in consultation with our industry panel, which includes representatives of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, DreamWorks and Samsung Design Europe.

PgDip/MSc Computer Vision & Image Analysis

Computer vision and image analysis is a rapidly evolving field with a wide range of applications. These include security and surveillance; biomedical analysis and biometrics measurement; pattern recognition; content-based image retrieval; 3D modelling; traffic monitoring and control; automated inspection and quality control; robot assembly; analysis of remotely sensed images; and other applications of industrial and social interest. This course provides you with the techniques and tools you need to build a complete computer vision system. Starting with different imaging devices and acquisition techniques, you build on your knowledge to understand and use the relevant image processing, feature extraction and pattern recognition algorithms. It is ideal if you are already working in industry and wish to advance your skills in this constantly evolving area.

MA Film making

This film making MA course will provide you with professional film production skills in both digital and analogue equipment and a knowledge of the theories of contemporary cinema. It takes its inspiration from all forms of cultural production that have challenged the official versions, including the work of artists, musicians, painters and performers and the movements of Italian neo-realism and the new cinemas of Africa, Latin America and Iran. The focus is placed firmly on developing clear and simple storytelling techniques that may transcend arbitrary formal categorisations of drama, documentary or genre.

MA Illustration & Animation

If you are an ambitious and determined artist, with the talent, motivation and desire to create new work, to form new directions and realise your career aspirations as an illustrator or animator, this course is ideal. It has a unique teaching and learning framework, providing you with the creative opportunity to develop a singular vision as an illustrator or animator, and will enable you to engage successfully in commercial practice after graduation. Specialisms include moving image, printmaking, digital imaging, book and editorial illustration.

MA Media & Communication

The Media and Communication MA is designed for those who want to gain a sophisticated insight into the role and function of media in contemporary society. The course focuses on: — the centrality of modern media forms and practices in our daily communication; and — the ways in which they facilitate and constrain the way we communicate with each other.

MA Motion Graphics

Screen design is the art of conceptualising, designing and producing innovative visual communication solutions for moving image. It is a powerful and expressive form of communication with a range of applications: film, television titles, branding themes, advertising commercials, screen displays for theatre, performance, corporate events and launches. It is about developing a dynamic visual vocabulary to explore mood and movement supported by innovative use of sound, music and language.

MA Production Design for Film & Television

If you would like to develop the traditional and technological skills needed for entry into an art department in the film and television industry, this course is ideal. It offers one of the few opportunities internationally to focus on scenic art direction in postgraduate study. The course has been designed to utilise your existing areas of expertise in a related discipline, which can range from Fine Art to Architecture, and add those required for professional practice.

PgDip/MSc Web Development

A growing number of businesses are concerned with increasing the strategic exploitation of technology and are using the web in rapidly changing and increasingly complex and critical ways.
